After more than a month of anticipation, the results are finally in for this year's Storyhive Documentary Edition! With over 300 pitches coming from British Columbia, and only 15 projects funded, Kalinga (Care) is luckily one of the recipients of this year's grant.
Kalinga is a Filipino word that means care. Here's the synopsis:
"In August 2005, Maria Facundo-Lilly, a Filipino-Canadian businesswoman established a company called Reliable Nanny & Caregiver Placement Agency located in Vancouver, BC where she provides opportunities for Filipinos to work in Canada as a caregiver or a nanny. Every month, hundreds of Filipinos have been arriving to Vancouver and the first person to greet them is her. For over 12 years working from one country to another, she has experienced the struggles of what it's like to be a caregiver/nanny. As we get to know Maria, she'll help us discover other inspiring stories of caregivers and nannies she's already helped and the ones who are on their way to have a taste of the so called, "Canadian Dream"."
The crew who will be coming together in making this vision happen are Kent Donguines (Writer/Director), Robin Macabulos, Maxime Beauchamp and Zlatina Pacheva (Producers), John Fleming (Director of Photography) and Rachel Guergis (Editor).
